LOCAL ANTI-DRUG COALITION SELECTED FOR NATIONAL PROGRAM
HUMPHREYS COUNTY , TENNESSEE – Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America’s National Community Anti-Drug Coalition Institute has selected the Humphreys County Drug Alliance, Inc. to participate in a new national initiative designed to help communities to better address their substance abuse problems. The “Greenhouse Training Program” will provide intensive training and technical assistance to 30 “emerging” coalitions from throughout the country for a period of one year.
As part of the Greenhouse Training Program, five members of the Humphreys County Drug Alliance recently participated an initial four-day training in Miami, FL, and will be attending two other trainings in Seattle and New Orleans in the next few months. The program will provide coalition members with instruction about some of the most effective community mobilization strategies currently available. As part of the Miami training, the Humphreys County Drug Alliance received assistance in developing a strategic plan to involve the entire community in its substance abuse prevention efforts.
“We are thrilled to have been selected to participate in this new national program. This training will help us become a more effective coalition, enabling us to better combat substance abuse by uniting our community in the effort,” said Gerald Bowker, Chairman of the Alliance.
The Greenhouse Program will also provide an experienced mentor to assist the Humphreys County Drug Alliance. This mentor, Pam White with the Nashville Prevention Partnership, will be available to aid the coalition members as they set the community anti-drug strategies they learn into practice.
CADCA’s National Institute receives federal funding to increase the number of effective anti-drug coalitions across the country and the Greenhouse Training Program is provided to the Humphreys County Drug Alliance on a no-cost basis. CADCA received close to 100 applications for admission into the Greenhouse Training Program; only 30 coalitions were selected.
