HUMPHREYS COUNTY TITLE I PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY
The Humphreys County Board of Education endorses the concept that parents and
school personnel must work together in order to improve the quality of education
for all students. The school district will assist the schools in building their
capacity for an effective parent involvement program. To ensure parents of Title
I children have an opportunity for input into the planning, design, and
implementation of the Title I program, the school system personnel shall:
1. Convene an annual meeting to which all parents of participating children
will be
invited to explain the programs, goals and activities under Title I. During this
meeting, the Title I County policy and the individual school(s) policy will be
discussed. The parents will be asked for suggestions and revisions to the
parent involvement policy and changes will be made accordingly. Throughout the
year, parents will be consulted concerning the needs of the Title I program, and
sent annual surveys.
2. Notify in writing the parents of each child selected to participate,
giving the reason
for selection and the goals and objectives of the program.
3. Send home to parents of participating children written progress reports,
samples
of work, and meet with parents to explain evaluation procedures and the results,
as well as their child’s progress toward meeting state standards.
4. Schedule parent/teacher conferences to discuss the child's progress,
placement,
methods parents can use to help with the child's instruction, and home-school
compact.
5. Hold such activities as parent visitation day and/or open house in the
child's Title I room or
schoolwide classroom to observe instructional activities and/or provide
educational materials to
be checked out for students and/or adults.
6. Provide parents of participating children with information about the
program and suggestions for working with their children in the areas of math
and/or reading through newsletters and handouts, in a language parents
understand.
7. Schedule regular meetings of parents and assist them in developing other
parental involvement activities. Appoint two parent representatives to serve on
the school planning committees.
8. Hold a joint planning meeting to discuss parental involvement activities
with other programs
including Adult Basic Education, Even Start, and Title V. Adult Basic Education
literature and
information will be given to parents of participating children.
9. Offer parent training classes provided by school personnel, checkout
materials for
parents to help their child at home, and parent training videos.
10. Through parent meetings and/or surveys, the LEA will conduct an annual
evaluation of the
effectiveness of the content and the parental involvement program to determine
what action
needs to be taken to increase parental participation and identify barriers to
participation.
11. The LEA will disseminate findings of the annual parent evaluation to
school planning
teams, of which two parent representatives will participate, and assist in
utilizing these
results to design strategies for school improvement and any needed revisions of
the parent
involvement policy.
12. Conduct workshops for teachers regarding legal requirements for parent
involvement and
ideas for making parent involvement successful, positive and helpful.
